Do the micro!!

O.k the Boogie off just got surreal.Welcome to the swirling, phazing, ghetto disco workout that is Microwave Boogie. The band aint that tight but man have they got it going on. A full power rootsy jam session with plenty of sing along chants and whoops all in honour of that indispensible kitchen utensil.
I was gonna save this for our novelty round but after a few listens it was clear this aint no gimmick record. Proper party madness. It is really a disco funk track but hey, as the man said 'boogie is a state of mind' So microwave your minds folks.

Premier League

After some successful ebay smash and grab missions over the last couple of weeks, the first spoils of auction have started to land on my doorstep. This tune is a proto-house, 4 to the floor nugget. Starting off all balearic with bird and water noises, it soon steps up with some tuff drum and bass. There is a long and noodly synth solo towards the end which is credited to Fred Zarr. He was a busy man in the 80's, featuring on many classics from acts such as The Strikers and also playing the Moog on hits like Holiday by Madonna.

Sinnamon sticks

I am still trying to decide which tune to post this week, so in the meantime I'm posting on behalf of Bez. Here's his spiel:

All good emotive boogie should start with a narrative, and what better way to start than with a fake telephone conversation: 'I will not be needing your loving services no more........'. Though they say hell hath no fury like a women scorned, its good to see Sinnamon was brought up properly and is still grateful for being dumped and finding someone new. Personally I would say good riddance as anyone that uses the term 'loving services' is a user and probably treats her fella like some sort of love plumber!

Sinnamon - Thanks to you

Round 2 to Miss Williams

It was a close thing but round two in the Boogie Off goes to the sweet sounds of 'cant get away' by Carol williams. That firing siren intro took everyone else out. A dancefloor statement in everyway. Nice one slippa.

Scores on the doors!

Had a really tough time with this weeks selection - all awesome and diverse - showing the true nature of Boogie - as Big Bez said - it's and art form not a science!! so without further ado....

Stern Funk - 8.5 (nearly 9 loved this tune – my type of boogie !)
Bezmondo - 8
(truly excellent - enjoyed this was a close run thing with Mr Stern)
Slipper Ire- 7.5
(a bit unusual but it has grown on me and I love it – can see it dropping on the dancefloor)
DJ Hudge - 7 (a wicked tune but not quite boogie enough for me / see it more in a “Frankie Valley” vain - I know, I Know - we don't see eye to boogie eye on this issue, but still rate the tune!)
Uncle Biggie - 6.5
(not your actual entry for round 2 but a great tune none the less - will the real Mr Biggie please stand up, please stand up)!

Peace and Harmony to the masses - cos we need it !!

THE CROWN - Gary Byrd & the BT Experience with Stevie Wonder

THE CROWN - what a tune!!

Now I'm not one for research, relying on instinct and the ladies on the dance floor.... this tune never fails with both gets me jumping up to boogie on down every time I hear it!

however...

With Mr Byrd, The BT Experience, Stevie Wonder and the sultry sweet vocals of Crystal Blake... I had to know more.... Luckily they wrote it on the back of the sleeve - which means I must have the original 12" - ha ha ha ;-)

Gary started a project into music colaborating with General Bass, Hank Cameron, Gerry Bledsoe & Gerry Boulding - recorded at wonderland studios and mastered at studio 55..... what you have here is an true example of musical genius reaching it's peak... the wordsmith Mr Byrd has blended verse with chorus using two lead vocals to represent all that is soul, whilst keeping the essence of what i consider dancefloor boogie , a killer bass breakdowns....

Enjoy this truly exceptional tune & whether I win this round or not - I hope you all recognise the magnitude of this tune!!!

THE CROWN - Gary Byrd & The BT Experience feat Stevie Wonder.

Bring on the Boogie Crown - this week I win!!

soul fire

What can I say about this. Its emotional. This records makes you want to leave the rat race behind, stroll out to the forest with your loved one, bring a picnic, a fine wine perhaps, some pillows, lie back in the long grass, stare up and thank the lord creator for making the world so Goddamn beautiful. I think i'm gonna cry.
altogether now.... "like the birds/ you and I/ can fly over rainbows"

File under pastoral boogie.

Too much!!!

Beautiful Boogie! What can i say this is a straight up boogie banger that im waking up singing at the moment. I played this on the radio last week and got about 10 calls asking about it.

This does it for me. I think the guitar and synths layer perfectly in the intro and then sit back nicely for the vocals. Although the 8 bar bridge to the chorus is a tad on the cheese side, after a while you kinda get into that too. The chorus is oh oh oh so fine with beautiful harmonies that just make you smile. There`s a staunch break down at 4.23 that comes alive with lovely live kick drum sound and a laid back rollin bass. Listen to this in your headphones, check the drums and get your head nod on! Booom
