Ramona Brooks 'I Dont Want You Back'
Ok here we go on behalf of latecomer dj hudge we have the last minute lady ramona...
Just when you thought you`d got away without the hudge. Boo yaa.
On the right side of that fine line between Boogie and Disco im gonna hit you off with Ramona Brooks and her 1980 track 'I Dont Want You Back' on Q records for my first installment.
With awesome production this tune comprises an expertly placed detuned guitar, big strings and a concrete percussive platform in the chorus that sets you up nicely for Ramona`s soulful vocal style and the killer slap bass breakdown just over half way through. Get ready for another wash Bez!
I`ve got it on a re-issue not original but its still a choice find im sure you`ll agree.
This tune is dope! Enjoy!

nice nice nice
lovely disco tinged entry, cannot fault Ramona, though am afraid that wont be getting overxcited and moist over this tune as unfortunately for you i have had it for nearly 10 years, yes was part of Joey Negro's Disco Spectrum Compilation of 1999.
you can tell i bought the album a while ago because it still has the 'Soul Brothers' price sticker and i paid only 13 quid for it! Did they ever sell albums at this price?
i still prefer Jazzy rhythm out of all this rounds tunes as well, so though normally i would mark this as an eight , considering i have had this tune for a nearly a decade i will be forced to give this a 7/10.
Well this late entry has certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons. And what a finale to a storming part one of the competition. We have had fine examples of the full gamut of boogie including jazzy, soulful, cosmic and cheesy, rounding off with some disco badness.
It has been hard to choose if Ramona or Donna is the love of my life this week. But it all boils down to the guitar solos for me. Although subtle, the tinny out of tune lick wins the day for me. Whereas Donna's guitar solo just goes on that bit too long.
Although tempted to mark down for the sheer tardiness of this entry, the scores on the doors read 9 out of 10.
Woah....the drama is too much. Ramona flying in with the smooth strings and her disco thing. Proper last minute fire.
Hmmm Donna,Karen or Ramona. its tough. Ramona's definately got the breakdown covered. Its a nice arrangement with all the signs of the mixing desk, much more dancefloor than ms mcgee. Its a badass soulful disco affair but maybe a little fomulaic. 'You should've told me' has got that soulful something, more organic and live sounding.I'm actually starting to get into that guitar as well.Kinda adds to quirky feeling and the thing is, donna's voice is just the bomb. Gotta let her take the prize..
Very respectable 8/10 to Ramona
Hang on..... are we going to let dave get away with a phrase like "concrete percussive platform" The hudge has turned into jazz wanker...Personally I feel that the dramatic tension between the swooping string arrangement and the recuperating melodic refrain really bind the piece together, eh dave?
Thank you for this track , this is one of my best disco tack ever I used to listen to it almost daily for a loon time and still like it till now but I'm wondering if you have the Instrumental version of this great track I'll be grateful for that help, thanks for the nice blog
